407 2.0 hdi
2006 55,000 miles (warranty has just expired, end of March)

any advice on the following ?
sequence of events:

1) ESP failure warning light - Intermittent for 1 week or so but now permanently displayed.

2) 'Depollution System Faulty' error has also appeared and remains on all the time.

3) ESP failure, ABS , Power Steering , Airbag , Engine management failure and Depollution System Faulty all flashing / beeping as soon as ignition is turned on.
Also engine sometimes remains running when ignition has been switched off and key has been taken out. Rev counter needle jumps up & down randomly , even though no acceleration.

Despite all of the above the car drives normal. Braking appears to be ok and engine / turbo are ok. Managed to drive the car to the dealers (5 miles away) where it is currently being looked at.

Peugeot rang me back today.

Not with the news i wanted to hear.

The wiring has been checked and diagnostics have been run.

They advise that the ABS pump / ECU needs replacing.

Cost £923 + vat

To supply and fit £1,450 !!!! ouch

No mention of the 'depollution fault ' so don't know wether by replacing the above will cure this fault as well.

Is it worth paying for another opinion and can this same work be carried out by another garage or mobile mechanic. Any suggestions anyone ?

Thanks for your comments, much appreciated.

However Peugeot are charging me for checking the wiring, I would have expected them to check the earths. The water ingress , is this a common fault ?
Can anybody else suggest anything else.

Latest developments:

I have registered my complaint with 'Peugeot customer care'.
My complaint is this that Peugeot are wanting to charge me an astronomical amount to fit a new ecu in the hope for a cure. What if this doesn't cure it, where does that leave me ?
Customer Care have agreed to come back to me within 4 days. We shall see.

Ok, I have found an alternative to Peugeot.
Apparently they are really good.. they specialise in electronic diagnostics and are very confident they can fix my car.
This is just some of the stuff they specialise in:-

Petrol & Diesel Engine Management, Emission control systems
ABS, ESP, DSC and Traction Control
Airbag and Restraint systems
Body control and Immobiliser
Automatic and Semi-Automatic Transmissions
Electric and Electro-Hydraulic steering
Turbocharger and Supercharger systems

They will be miles cheaper and will probably offer a better service than Peugeot, so
unless Peugeot agree to do all work for nothing (which I doubt very much) then I'm off to this other place.
