Good morning all,

I’m new here, I’m not new to forums, but the first Peugeot that’s required help.

I’ve just picked up a 2008 407 (saloon) GT, V6 2.7. It’s relatively good condition and was my father-in-laws. For the last 6 years it’s done on average 300 miles between MOTs and only 60k miles total.
My plan is to use it as a motorway mile muncher, I have a BMW M2 Competition that I’m trying to keep nice so thought the 407 would be a decent car to do about 400 motorway miles a week in.
For my Bimmer, I have a Bluetooth OBD2 adapter that I use with specific apps to code and read.
I downloaded an iPhone app called Car Scanner and successfully read the error codes on the 407. Btw, it has an airbag light on the dash. There’s a few error codes:
-P1351
-U1213
-P2048
-P0234

None of them seem to point at the airbag issue?
My question is, can you recommend an app for reading and clearing the codes? I don’t mind paying for it as long as I know it will work. Alternatively would a proper OBD scanner be a better purchase?
My plan is to clear the airbag fault, use few bottles of different fuel additives (one at a time obviously) and give it the first proper thrashing in a few years to hopefully clear the soot out, after that, I’ll change the engine oil and reassess.

Peugeot uses its own proprietary software and obd2 cable
you will only get basic obd2 codes unless you have something pretty fancey

look on ebay for diagbox / pp2000 / lexia 3.... more money doesn't mean better quality
and the majority come with pirated software that will only run on windows xp or 7 x86 /32bit
(unless somebody chimes in with a better option below)

mine looked like this

but I payed about half that so might be worth hunting on ali express

I have diagbox and Peugeot Planet 2000 software
I think pp2000 is the older version... but I feel its easier to find the options im looking for
both work on the same cable... im not sure what lexia 3 is (could be the name of the cable?)

airbag light can sometimes be an electric connector under the seats
or in the comms unit check the ribbon cables for damage

U1213 I think is an abs sensor.. or a damaged magnetic sensor ring.. its attached to the wheel bearing https://www.amazon.co.uk/23pcs-Front-Bearing-Removal-Installation/dp/B075N1FRDL/ref=sr_1_3?crid=D7PZDY3GJ9AD&keywords=wheel+bearing+removal+kit&qid=1679200440&sprefix=wheel+bearing+,aps,96&sr=8-3

i dont like the look of that P0234 code

"The P0234 is a generic code triggered when your vehicle’s engine control module (ECM) detects dangerously high boost pressure levels above the maximum specified pressure. The ECM receives this data from the Boost Pressure Sensor, which continually sends the data back, and if left unchecked, this adverse condition can damage the engine."

or blow a turbo

looks like you have a bad glow plug/s (not fun to change but wont stop the car from starting in england)
one of those codes looks like its pointing at an injector. that could cause the overboost. as can airintake / vaccum leaks or the egr valve

Thanks for your replies, I’ll check out the OBD suggestions.
There’s no rush to get the car going, it’s currently on our drive and sorn’d. So I want to spend a month or two getting it correct before I start to use it.

I’ve read this can be a sticking waste gate solenoid, is that a good place to start looking?

Its one of those things where you need to check everything
the pp2000 cable will give you more information
for example a generic obd2 wont pick up an egr fault code
it wont outright tell you what the problem is... but it should point you in the right direction
yea a sticking waste gate could be a thing... there are many youtube videos on how to test them
but the 1.6hdi I was just working on had a garret turbo that didn't have a waste gate.
im a diy guy in not familier with a 2.7. there are many other people here that actually know what they're talking about
im sure iv read a post recently where someone just adjusted the acutator to solve an overboost issue

When they don't have wastegate, it's because they are variable vanes, which achieve a similar effect without the use of wastegate, through the adjustment of the vanes.
Mmmm iv done some research since... but when I found it. it turned what I thought I knew about turbos upside down🙃
The garret one seems to be rare on 308s most of them are made by Mitsubishi and do have a waste gate.
