Mainly, does the subframe have to come down to get the gearbox off the car?

As it is a petrol it has the smallest gearbox, BE4R.

I'm considering taking on the job, but if subframe need to come down I'm not sure I will bother....

Also does the front bumper need to come off?

It was tight indeed, but somehow managed to get the gearbox off yesterday.
I'm more sceptical about getting it back on again though..

The release bearing had seen better days, it just fell apart when gearbox was taken off.

Btw. for info, did not need to remove main subframe, just the aluminium crash frame.
