Hi, how expensive and hard would it to be to repair a 407sw 1.6 HDI with a blown turbo?
I have seen loads for sale on a well known auction site and was interested in the amount of work involved.

Nothing is truly unrepairable.... just depends how much time and money you want to spend :thumb:

As Betty said, the most important question is WHY did it fail. If that isn't identified and properly addressed the turbo will be prone to repeat failure.

Regarding replacement, there's a checklist somewhere on here of all the things to check/replace along with the turbo. It's not difficult provided you have a decent collection of tools and a reasonable level of competence. It's just time consuming...there's alot of other things to come off before the turbo can come out.

Cost wise you're looking at roughly - £350 for the turbo, another £100 for pickup strainer and oil pipes, maybe another £100 for consumables...engine flush, filters, oil, sump sealant etc.

Finally, after all that, it's debatable whether following everything in the mentioned checklist will guarantee against future failure as most of the actions are precautionary measures that may not directly address the root cause of the original failure.

Regards,
Peter
