I have a 1998 406.

It keeps stalling.

It happens most when the engine is cold. the revs drop right down to 0 and it stalls mostly when the clutch is applied to change gear when slowing to a stop or when the clutch goes in when engaging reverse.

This happens quite a lot until the engine warms up, maybe until it is passed 75 degrees or so. My wife also said it happened to her when the car had been running for ages but I haven't experienced this myself.

Could it be a loose earth on the clutch? I saw this somewhere on this site a while ago but was unable to locate the clutch earth cable anyhow!

Any help would be really appreciated

It could be a number of things although the engine mangemnt light is not on it might be worth a diagnostic. Average cost is £40 +vat. Could be the automatic choke, air mass, lambda (o2) sensor, throttle housing.

When ringing around ask if there no fault is there a charge - not many but some small garages dont charge if theres no fault.
