Good Day. I have Peugeot 406 (2004) which has been performing well until now. There is an intermittent engine error code reading "environmental pollution fault". When the error code first appeared a few weeks ago it was appearing within two minutes of starting the engine. the car was hard starting and the idling was erratic. When I checked the engine, I noticed that the air inlet cover was loose after securing the air inlet cover the error disappeared for almost two weeks, the car started normally and ran smoothly although I noticed increased fuel consumption about 6km/litre as compared to the usual 12km/litre. I got the injectors serviced and there was no change on the fuel consumption side. Recently the error appears intermittently especially when the engine has warmed up. When the error occurs the engine fails to idle and cuts off on clutch-in. There is also a small emission of black smoke on the exhaust. Help!!!!! any one please.
