My windscreen washers have stopped working, on my 2003 405 hdi. The washer pump is ok, as is the switch/stalk. The garage tells me the wiring goes thru the ECU. Is this the case? Does this really mean a replacement ECU? I am feeling slightly desperate ( ! ). Only other alternative i can see is to wire washer pump directly from a seperate switch. All help and advice would be really appreciated, thank you.

 FFS!

If I were you I would get hold of the Wiring diagram and bypass it.

From my diagram for a 206, they all plug into a "Built in systems interface" which is behind the drivers fusebox, and contains most of the simple relays and timers involved for wipers and indicators.

With a bit of wire tracing, you can bypass it, adding a small relay at the most for intermittent wipe.
You can even buy this as a kit or module - http://www.maplin.co.uk/module.aspx?TabID=1&criteria=usb&ModuleNo=3182&doy=search&C=SO&U=Strat15
