Hi,

A few months back I kept getting a warning about the Anti-Pollution System being faulty, took the car to my local garage who got the codes for me but advised me to take it to a Peugeot dealer.

On this occasion the codes referred to the following;

P1385 Super Knock Detection (Intermittent)
P0016 Fault in Synchronisation between the camshaft and the crankshaft (Permanent)
P2336 Super Knock Detection - Cylinder 1 (Intermittent)
P0074 Ambient Air Temperature information received from the BSI fault (Intermittent)
F40A Oil Gauge Fault
F5FF Unexpected re-initialisation fault coming from the BSI

Anyway I took it to the Peugeot dealer and was told that the Timing belt needed changed and would cost £800. The car had done 56000 miles so made sense so got the work done and the faults stopped appearing.
They did mention that one of the other faults may or may not disappear when the timing belt was changed but would re-appear in time (this was coking of the valves) and they suggested a cost in the region of £800 to fix this if it did come back.

Anyway earlier this week the fault returned briefly but has since stopped occurring, I'm going to take it in to my local garage who can hopefully extract any fault codes again but am hoping it's not the coking of the valves as don't fancy shelling out another £800 but que sera and all that.

Just wondered if anyone had any thoughts on this at all?

Antipollution comes on for LOADS of reasons as its not really a fault its a message telling you something is wrong.

Even stalling the car can be enough to put the display message on !

Your timing belt replacement was more likely a timing CHAIN replacement.

You dont say what engine though so i have had to guess based on your wording.

Thanks for the quick response.

Yes it was the timing chain as you suggested.

The car is 308 GT 100 CC THP 1598cc.

I do think it's odd that you can get an engine error one minute and then nothing, surely a problem is always a problem hence why I want to get it checked it for peace of minds sake.

No as i say the system is very sensitive and even an electrical spike can cause the message in many cases its really nothing !

Its NOT an engine error message its a pollution message its basically telling you that you MIGHT be causing pollution its very poorly worded and very missunderstood.
