Hello, new to forum, and I'm in the process of purchasing a 2008 308 2.0 hdi GT

It has the I believe RT4 head unit fitted,

My question,

If I remove the head unit, will I be able to install an aftermarket say kenwood DAB, IPhone compatible head unit without any issues to say the can system? Will I loose the sat nav ( don't need the sat nav)
Any help would be great thanks,

Like the car just not the stereo

Regards
Neil

Pretty sure you would loose the on board navigation. Shouldn't cause any issues with the CAN bus though it may be a good idea to disconnect the battery before removing the head unit. Seen a number of posts were people have replaced the OEM unit for an aftermarket and caused weird problems due to shorting out wiring.

Ok guys,
Now have purchased the above car, and really don't like the RT4 or 3 I'm sure it's a 4!

Am I correct in thinking it's not got Bluetooth!? As it requires a SIM card put into head unit? Then becomes a hands free phone?

The big question is,
If I install an aftermarket dab, iPhone compatible prob with Bluetooth

I know I will lose the sat nav (not bothered about that)

But will, ext temp, forward and reverse sensors still work? Possibly bleep but no image, as long as I get some beeps, il be happy with that,

I know it's an 08 plate but although it's high tech HU it's so out of date lol

The external temperature and time will still be there and I suspect the parking sensors will still be there. Not overly certain of how options are programmed with the RT systems but I think they are setup from the display ecu. I stand to be corrected by a more knowledgeable member.

Thanks mate,
Have found an audio specialist in Coventry who's mate knows a lot more on these units, as he's done a swap and researched more into them, he's going to come back to me on options,
As apparently some audio manufacturers make units that utilise screens, due to more and more cars now having separate screens/multifunction displays,
He will come back next week with options of units and what will do what with screen if anything,
Will report back

Thanks

Sorry to open an old thread. I’m having the same dilemma now. Did you manage to find a head unit that uses the screen?
