Hi all.
Has anyone any comment regarding the following problem and why a 3 ½ year old engine would develop a pin hole leak in a injector supply line? (6 months out of warranty)

Peugeot 308 XSE 16HDIMCP
New buy in August 2009 (1/09/08 product date)
31461 km
Mainly city driving
Sydney, Australia

Serviced as per dealers recommendations, by original dealer.
Last serviced January 2013

After white smoke was coming from under the bonnet and a very strong smell of diesel we discovered the orange rubber seal (gasket) at the air intake to the turbo charge was split and covered in soot and the whole engine compartment covered in diesel (including the sound and heat proofing to the fire wall) we had the car towed on the 20/03/2013 to the original dealers work shop for action.

Notified by service advisor the following:
“Inspected and found cylinder 1 fuel injector supply line has a pin hole in it causing leak onto exhaust and causing the smoke. Also found leak coming from turbo intake pipe gasket due to diesel leaking and soaking gasket. Fitted new pipe set of cylinder 1 & 2 , cleared faults, road tested All OK”

Cost of parts AUS$ 182.55
Labour AUS$ 630.17
Total incl tax AUS$ 920.80

We need the car every day so we paid, but noted to the service adviser that we will be submitting a complaint in writing and would like to include any relevant comments from this forum.

Any insights would be appreciated.

To be honest, I would suspect that there was an undetectable flaw in the fuel pipe which eventually turned into the pinhole due to the pressure in the line. Not something that anyone could have forseen. The gasket on the turbo probably perished due to the diesel contamination - again not something that could have been forseen.

I'm not familiar with costs in Australia but the charges seem to be quite high, I can't imagine that it would have been too dificult to spot the leak with the engine running so diagnosing the cause shouldn't have taken too long. Seems an excessive labour charge but maybe that figure is correct for your location.

The only cause for complaint that I can see is the bill, can't really see that you have any reason to complain over the failure of the fuel pipe.

another 308 'failure'

Thanks for your replies.
will bring up the costs with our sydney shop.
And now thwe "depollution device failure" warning has come on, car looses power and shuts down. This happened when the car was only two years old and the fuel filter had failed. Replaced under warrentee, and now again after only 26 months!! I think we got a lemon!!
