Had a towbar fitted by a local specialist fitter to my Allure SW.

He used one supplied by Tow Trust for this model. It is correctly fitted, but the design causes the swan neck to hang down under the car. The result is hittig several speed bumps quite hard if there are more than 2 people in the car, and this is without a trailer hooked up. It hit one of the rubber ones at the passport control in the Eurotunnel terminal, I was travelling at less than a walking pace and there were three of us in the car.

Asked tow Trust about it and they basically said I was being too picky. I asked if they had any alternative swan neck which might fit better, but they declined to answer.

So of you have a 308 SW and are thinking of adding a tow bar, be aware that some manufacturers may not have a product that fits very well.

On the new 308 SW, any towbar requires a cut in the bumper. There is no gap at all.

This problem is purely down to the shape of the swan neck.

Well no thanks to Tow trust, but I have solved the problem. I drilled two more n the swan neck 25mm lower to raise it, but at an angle so the tow ball remained the same height.

So now it sits closer to the underside.

Well, having emailed Tow Trust telling them what I have done to correct the position of the swan neck, today I got a call from their managing director and owner of the company. He was not happy that I had been fobbed off previously and insists on sending a new modified swan neck in the next couple of days made to suit this car.

It might have been the mention of posting this here which got that result, I will update when this new part comes and I have fitted it.

Well to finish this story off, new swan neck arrived this morning. Can't beat that for service.
It fits perfectly, so I have to say the service I eventually got from Tow Trust was second to none.

Your last photo looks a lot different to your previous ones and to my car regarding the gap.
My car has a gap of 55mm from car to edge of towball.
It may well be the angle you took photo from but for my Alko stabiliser a good gap is needed.

That's one hell of a modification. Either they already had them designed and made up or they fast tracked one because of your actions. Either way, if it suits your requirements then it's a good ending.

They have several different shape swan necks for different applications. This one had a different number, but was also bent slightly differently for my application. All done in a day so yes, fast tracked.

Just hope they keep a note of that for any other owners of this car.

It's good that they sorted this. The suggestion that you were being picky made me laugh. What sort of company thinks that the tow bar hitting the speed bumps is acceptable?

Mine was fitted by a local independent fitter, doubt he would travel to North Wales.
Try ringing the manufacturers, Witter, Thule etc, talk to someone rather than rely on what the websites say.

FWIW: Thule supply the genuine Peugeot tow bar kit that fits the 308 T9.

Looks like rear bumper removable & then some cutting underneath is required.

It also recommends removing the front grill blanking plates while towing for certain powertrains & also in cold countrys.
