My 2009 308 1.6vti has an engine undertray and some of the fixings appear to be into clips which endlessly turn and therefore will not undo. How easy are these to get and has anyone found an easy way to remove them?

This happened on mine too - a few years ago. The front bolts go into captive nuts and I sprayed them with penetrating oil through the front grill and they all came out eventually - be careful as once the captive nut turns that's it and you'll have to pull the liner off them or somehow get captive nuts out of the cross member. The captive fixings for the side bolts are moulded into the underwing liners and aren't available separately. I had to break them off. I then bolted some alloy angle to the liners and put captive nuts on it to take the bolts going up through the under engine liner. All quite time comsuming. I guess the side fixings could be cable tied through suitably drilled holes but the front ones would be more difficult. The 2 at the back are nuts on studs. I'm not sure what I'd do if the stud(s) sheared as they are welded onto the cross member at the back. Drill holes and use self tappers maybe?

Thank for you're reply. Lots of useful advice. Started squirting release fluid through the grill today..... ?
