A few weeks ago I parked my 308 for 10 minutes and when I attempted to start the car I got an error message saying to press the brake pedal and select neutral. The brake pedal was pressed (rock hard) and the selector was in Neutral but still nothing. Whilst waiting for the AA I tried moving and shaking the gear selector which worked and the car started. After it started other error message started to flash up including brake fault and ESP fault.

When the AA came he hooked the car up cleared the error messages and car was fine until yesterday. I attempted to start the car and same issue but this time no matter what I did it would not start. AA came out and the only way he could get it started was to bypass the BSI and start directly on the starter motor. As soon as it started and up came the error messages again.

The AA has now said it needs to go into a garage as he suspects the BSI to be faulty. Between AA coming out and contacting the garage to book the car in I have had a look a on various sites and may of these mention battery issues causing faults like this. The car is a 2012 plate 1.6 diesel (Oxygo) with 34000 on the clock and the battery is the factory fitted one. The other clue to being the battery is when the car is stood at junctions/traffic lights ect the Eco light flashes on the dash but the engine stays running.

Does sound battery or charging related. Just get the battery load tested by your local motor factors or maybe even Halfords. Failing batteries cause all sorts of weirdness but the fix is simple with a new battery.

Hi all Car was in garage yesterday and they checked the faults and concluded it was the battery which was replaced. Brought home and parked up for a few hours and when I went to use 4 hours later same fault telling me to press brake pedal and select neutral which was already done. Any suggestions?
