Ive got the beginings of rust along the lower edge of the tailgate on my 307sw.

Its not that noticeable but its starting to bug me. Unfortunately it is not confined to the inside edge but slightly over and onto the outside.

While i could have it all rubbed back and painted professionally I'm just wondering about treating it with a rust stabilisor then a bit of topcoat. Maybe fit a trim over the edge but would want it to look as OEM as possible.

Thinking the platinum version of http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/PEUGEOT-307-SW-02-08-3M-Chrome-Moulding-Chrome-trim-Rear-trunk-trim-/251800413025?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item3aa0796361 as mine already has the silver roof rails and boot handle

Anyone faced the same dilema and what was your approach?

My bonnet and rear tailgate have some rot - there when I purchased the car around 4/5 years ago. I've just left as is. IMO if the rot is on bolt on parts it's not worth the expense of trying to rectify. It's quite difficult to match the repair - over time the original paint will 'fade' - even if you have the correct colour code paint - it may well look different.

If it really bothers - then I'd go for the trim approach.
