Can anyone please solve a problem that I have experienced over the last couple of months. If I travel more then twenty miles I have a coolant warning light come on to top up the expansion tank, the level drops in this travel distance down from the level line to about 2 inches (5 cms). There is no indication of trouble from the main temperature gauge which steadies at about a third up the measurement dial. There is no lack of performance nor is there any water signs in the oil or white smoke/steam coming from the exhaust. The coolant is being forced back up through the expansion tank cap, I have put a new cap on but still the problem. I have taken it to a peugeot garage and they have done an exhaust test, compression test and coolant pressure test all which are ok except that there is apparently more pressure being generated, thus pushing the coolant out. The conclusion they have come to is that there is MAYBE a leak in the head gasket going into the exhaust. However this is just a guess to the tune of £1400 to change the gasket ! Can anyone please throw some light on this problem, I do not want obviously to spend this money if it does not solve the problem, thank you
