Hi i no this may be on other threads but ill be thankfull if u could help me on hear,
I purchased a 307 2.0 hdi (110) 2001 the other day, i dont no alot about these cars so after haveing a test drive and felt ok to drive i handed the cash over,
After driving home i started to hear noises and getting to no the car a little i guess, well i no diesals are louder than petrol but my car does seem very loud infact louder than my bro's 406 mk1 1.9td and mk2 2.0 hdi, like a rattly noise and seems to have some kind of sqeak quite alot, i looked at the tensioner and thats fine and the noise was to the right side of the car and i think the louder noise (rattle) is too.
My engine also makes a shudder on start up and even worse when switch engine of (feels like engine loose).
I i ledge my foot on the clutch slighly i feel a vibration and also i get a whining which i can hear more when slowing down the most like a plane.

I get a feeling i have been scammed and brought a car that needs a huge repair,
Is the faults i describe the flywheel and clutch? will this be making my engine much more noisey than it should?

I looked through service histiry and no sign of clutch replaced or flywheel.
The car has coverd 120,000 and apart from that i love the car, it drives lovely, the car is in good condition and everything seems to work inside apart from somet that detects the temp outside seems to not work very well as its 7c outside and i get in the car and it says ice warning lol.

Any help would be gratfull,
Tony

hi tony,

i think what your experiancing is just typical aged diesel engine noises. you may have a engine mount or two that need replacing, but dont quote me on that.

when you put your foot on the clutch, i always find no matter what car there is always a vibration or a very slight shake...nothing wrong unless the clutch starts to slip or make noises. if the car has been driven with care by the prevous owners and the clutch was used properly they can last for ageis...i have a really bad habbit of riding the clutch and making fast "racer" changes so mine last went in my pug at 90k miles, got it at 72k, but i dont know how the car was driven before me. one test i was told to check a clutch and flywheel is to try and pull off in a higher gear (from 3rd onwards) if it does, time to get saving...if it stalls...its good:thumb:

the outside temp sensor, on the 307 from what i am told and seen, is in the passenger side wing mirror. cant see that costing a fortune from the dealers for the part. just something for you to look at for your fault.:thumb:

hope this helps :thumb:

If you're travelling in start stop traffic, does the car shudder when you dip the clutch? Try that, travel in first to about 15mph then dip the clutch or put the car in neutral but don't brake, see if the engine feels it is juddering then. If so you have the same problem as me, a clutch on its way out. Don't quote me on this but apparently from first signs of noise indicating the clutch going, you have about a year to replace

Hi guys, well my engine judders when cold standing still and i think it seems to stop as it gets warmer, as for when i switch engine of the engine shakes and it quite bad and i havnt seen nothing like it be4 as i few family members have had these cars and my car has far to much noise,
i could try and do a video of the engine noise while running and maybe switching engine off if you fell it my help to see what problems i might have.
i get squeaking all the time and it changes when i put the clutch in and areplane noise when slowing down and accelerating (whining) and i did have that on an old car (escort gti) and i had to have a new clutch.
I will try and dip clutch in abit in traffic and let you no but i think it does,

the engine is extremly loud which makes me beleive the injectors are naff as i remember the last owners said somet about they put a new fuel pump on and some additives, for wat reason i dont no but i can tell you its very very noisey.

I hope chopper doesn't see this thread :nono:

How didn't you see this in the test drive? Be honest. Were you desperate for a motor?

Private sale it was, on test drive it was just around a yard I used 1,2,3 gears, didnt really hear much squeaking and clutch seems to work fine and till does to me, I traveled 90miles back home and now it seems much louder and I'm hearing the squeaking noise much more with a whine as I'm accelerating or slowing down. I did feel when I switch engine of it made a bit of a thuder.
I wasn't desperate I even viewed a 306 hdi and turned it down even tho it was immaculate as it had huge problems which I noticed straight away and also I arranged to view a 307 but the owners wouldn't let me come last min and said come tomorrow so I pulled out as I seemed dodgy,
I had the car for £1550 which was advertised on eBay with no faults but was on aution and had a week to go so I managed to get him to 1550 on phone.
I'm worried about the cost but more worried if I should or shouldn't drive it,
I am no mechanic but to me it seems like clutch and flywheel, injectors, maybe a mount that needs attention and changing.
I'm guessing my big amount of excessive engine noise will be injectors? Due to the last owner telling me he but addictives in it (to quiet the car) ? DAMM I'm angry but this isn't the first time I been done over

Get a solid flywheel and regular clutch kit and fit it. You'll never have those noises again. About 5 to 6 hours work.

here is a few clips, the sqeaking happens alot when driving and wen warm it constantly squeaks and ya get the same kind of noise when i switch the engine off and engine moves.

i did that test are you supposed to rev the hell out of it in third gear to move? i did rev it abit and it moved slighly and clonked out.
still get the whinning (think its clutch) as it seems to go i think when i dip the clutch.
power dont seem to be produce 110bhp

delete most of them posts and ask betty how to embed videos.

I saw one, sounds like the starter motor is sticking in a little bit

I've just checked the other one, kinda sounds like mine a little so I hope there's nowt wrong there!

There was a moment where your engine sounded like it would when you pull away from standstill. You know, like it's actually pulling the car. But if you have air con it would probably make that noise anyway.

I got my brother to have a listen today. We checked near the pulleys and it seems there is a noise from there, But that isn't all wat my car is experiencing, there is a huge screeching that gets louder when the clutch is applied and my brother went under car and said it's from near gearbox with some sort of rattle so I guess the clutch is naff and the rattle from the flywheel, we don't understand why the engine moves that much when I switch engine of as it's crazy and shouldn't do that. Sitting in the car the engine judders and shakes things, also my brother checked the clutch pedal and said it's naff :( Im not mechanically minded tbh but this could be correct? Will any garage detect the problems quickly with a quick look over u think?
