Hello all

first post but have been lurking for years , finally got the lovely MIL light & depollution message. Cut a long story short had codes read , faulty egr diagnosed & fitted by garage , - learn done in planet peuget, all original codes went but light stays on and have a permanent p0406 error which wasnt there before. Its copy signal too high - theyve checked the loom which they recon are fine & fitted a new plug on the loom end of the EGR.

Any one have any ideas before i take it to the main stealers and grab the barrel with both hands.?

oh btw on real time data the EGR throttle electrovalve OCR says value invalid?

ive fixed a few issues before using the info in other posts from the knowledge on the site so i'm hoping someone has seen this before.

What does this mean?
OBD Code P0406refers to
The optical sensor provides a high resolution signal to the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) by counting pulses on the sensor disk located in the injection pump. The high resolution is one of the most important inputs by the PCM for fuel control and timing. This test monitors the number of high resolution pulses which have been missed (not detected). It's based on a comparison between the number of pulses that were detected since the last pump cam pulse and the number of the pulses that should have occurred. There are approximately 64 high resolution pulses for every cam pulse.
Symptoms
Possible sumptoms of OBD code P0406
- Engine Light ON (or Service Engine Soon Warning Light)
Causes
Possible causes of OBD code P0406
- Open or short in the optical sensor circuit - Optical sensor connector - Damaged optical sensor - Damaged PCM or ECM The Error code is generally activated on detection of the following conditions: Some high resolution pulses are missing from the optical sensor to the PCM
Possible Solutions
- If damage, repair optical sensor circuit - Replaced optical sensor - Replaced PCM or ECM

Thats very helpfull , gives me somewhere to start looking at - the garage recon they visually checked the loom but i guess they werent looking for a specific item , they were thinking more along the lines of a broken wire or earth point.
I'll start googling the optical sensor to see where it is & what it does.
If its the pcm or ecm its going to be more than the cars worth.
