Hi guys,

I recently had my car at the shop for oil and filters change, but I noticed that the oil filter housing is leaking when the engine is turned on. What I want to do is change the oil filter by myself, so I was wondering is it necessary to empty the oil before doing this or not, since it's been poured less than two months ago.

Thanks!

Why not change just the filter or even better the seal that comes with the filter.
You'll only lose the contents of the bowl so you'll lose the filter oil content not the whole system
Are you sure it's leaking?
Mine was wet for a while after a filter change, it would leave a streak then stop. I think it had some trapped from the filter change, once it was flushed with solvent it disappeared.

As an extra, are you sure it's leaking past the seal and not the filter housing plastic bowl that's been cracked? Have a good look when you remove it.
