First post to the forum so hope someone can help.

I'm changing the head gasket on my 306 GTI -6 6 speed and having problems with understanding the timings marks. I've rotated the crank till the hole in the lower pulley aligns with the slot and can insert a locking pin. However, if I do so the cams don't line up with their respective markings. If I remove the crank pin and rotate the crank so that the cams line up then the crank pulley hole is about 10deg further round (clockwise) when looking directly onto the pully. Because I can get both locking bolts into each of the cams tabs then it suggests to me that no one has introduced any advance on the inlet cam. The only thing. I can think of is that the lower pully has rotated around its central fixing (since it's got a rubber type bonding) but has anyone else experienced this?

Hope you can help me..

Thank you.

I agree what a hopeless idea?,I keep a new pulley in my box for checking as most are miles out.
I even found a cheep "new" one bought from Euro Car Parts was also assembled wrong.
Its best to get a new pulley from Peugeot or an O/E part made by Lemfoerder.
