My son has a 1998 306 cab 1,6 8 valve (NZF) that sometimes won’t start. Let it sit for an hour or three, everything is normal.

Up until now the problems have been when engine was hot.

I Suspected crank sensor.

This afternoon I took it out of the garage, started just fine, and an hour later it would not start.
Took of a spark plug wire and put a spare plug in to the wire to check for sparkand it has spark.

Well i thought, lets give it a spray of starting gas.
Still it won’t fire.

anyone have a suggestion what can be wrong?

Not starting hot but no problem starting cold could very well be a faulty coolant temperature sensor. There will usually be a straight forward fault code.

It might be a fuel pump relay or your fuel pump is dead motor my suggestion is replace first the fuel pump because it is very reared that fuel pump relays are imposible to be a bog issues
