3008 (2018) Check The Dipped Beam Headlights

Hello,

So, we had a reasonably big 'bump' in our 2018 3008 Allure a month ago, basically damage to front bumper, and left side fog lamp. After a near three weeks in Accident Repair we have new bumper, fog lamp unit and reg plate and looks great (picked up on Friday just gone). I have been told it has been through quality control twice. Accident Repair Center pretty poor comms but thats another story.

Yesterday was the first time we have driven in the dark and headlights (full LED) switched on. Within a few seconds of switching on we got a orange spanner, flashing green dipped headlight indicator and a service message stating "check the dipped beam headlights".

The headlights both dipped, full beam as well as daytime running and indicators are physically working correctly, auto headlights come on and off correctly and cornering lights come on when expected. When I switch them off error goes away but after swiching back on error returns after the few seconds.

There are no codes showing on OBD.

Now as stated the ARC have not been great so far and I have stopped using my local Peugeot dealer (another long story). I do have an extended Peugeot Warranty and my local Citreon garage now look after me (not that they are particulary great either but better than the other two).

Before I contact either on Monday I wanted to check if anyone could shed any thoughts on what could have gone wrong or things to try? Could this be due to the repair work or just a coincidental fault? I want to believe when the ARC rebuilt the front end they have just not plugged in a sensor or something, especially so as the actual lights all seem to be working.

I also suspest the ARC will say its not us, it left them working and my garage will want to charge me for diagnostics, albeit Id try to push through warranty. Just want to be as prepared as possible for the likley fight ahead. Obviously if anyone has a quick win idea then please also send my way.

Thank you in advance.

If the car has gone through quality control twice, they must have seen this as you need to turn on the dipped beam in order to enable the fog lights. The chances of this fault being caused by you is extremely small. Personally, I would go back to them and demand a diagnostic free of charge.

A regular OBD scanner probably won't see the fault but Diagbox most definitely can.

Hi I am experiencing the exact same issue with my 3008 (2018). Same damage to the same area of the car as well. Picked up the car from the ARC a few days ago and only noticed this issue this morning. Did you resolve the issue? I'd appreciate any advice as I'm also wondering whether to take it back to the ARC, but really not in the mood for them (we had similar service experience too it seems) so if there's another solution that would be brilliant. Thank you.

Hi Keemon297,
So I took it back to ARC and spoke to the Workshop Manager. After a good few hours of further diagnostics and speaking to a lighting specialist they have come up with the following reason. On the headlamp unit (which I was unaware they had fully replaced due hidden damage) there are two significant parts. The front end that contains all the LED parts and a metal part that this sits into in the back of the this (he called it something but to be honest cannot recall what it was). It sort of looks like a heat sink. In fairness to the ARC they admitted they replaced the front part but not the rear metal part which they explained in all other brands would not need to be done. Apparently for Peugeots each part is coded to each other so both need swapped out together (he stated Peugeot are a nightmare for doing this apparently) but this was based on a lighting specialist they had to consult as heads were scratching at the workshop. He did say lights are all tested, working and calibrated correctly they are just not talking to the car from a comms perspective. So good news, car got booked back in and ARC provide courtesy car. Unfortunatley at time of pick up find out the parts sent are incorrect despite ARC assuring me they ordered correctly. So waiting until we are back from holiday for them to have a second go. I would love to think this will now be resolced quickly, mmmmm watch this space! In fairness to the ARC there was no challenge on whose fault this was, as I thought it may turn into a protracted battle between, ARC, me, my insurer and Peugeot Warranty. Hope you get yours resolved but definitely go back to ARC in the first instance. If you have a good relationship with your local dealer you could also seek their advice for free to pass onto the ARC (I did not have this in my case).

Hi MY3008

Thanks alot for the reply. I've checked the list of work carried out and it indeed indicates the headlamp was replaced so I suspect that its the same issue you're experiencing again. I have also confirmed that the lights all work as they should so it's not that urgent. Mostly its just frustrating as the flashing icon can be a nuisance. I'll have to muster the energy to firstly deal with ARC at all and secondly to get them onboard that I may know what they issue is. Though I suspect they will still want to do their own diagnostic. Please keep me posted if you don't mind. I'll do the same - perhaps there's another possible explanation too. For now, enjoy your holiday :)

Hi Keemon297
I have been reading the forums to find out more about the fault on my car, the same has yours check the dipped beam headlights when you take the headlights off auto. Just brought my peugeot 3008 gt line its 3 years old the fault was on when I purchased it which I didn't find until I got it home. Took it back and the problem was the headlight unit, they did take a while to find the fault but the previous owner must have had a new headlight for whatever reason and the wrong one was put in it was a newer version of the headlight and the software wasn't compatible with my car although lights worked on auto. The garage got the proper part number for the year of my car and replaced the full unit it worked, no more check the dipped headlight beam no more spanner or flashing dipped beam icon on the dashboard. It seems like there are different versions of the headlight unit for the 3008 hope this helps
