Hi, I've had an intermittent engine fault on my 63 plate GTI for almost two years. An 'Engine fault. repair needed' message comes up, but by the time I get to the garage the warning light has gone. Whilst under warranty, two different Peugeot dealers both looked at the car and said they couldn't find a fault and the car was fine to drive. At the last service, I mentioned the warning light again and a software update was loaded. I was told to go away and see if this made any difference. A month after the warranty expired, the dealer now says that they have found an intermitttent fault which goes back 590 days, but they are refusing to cover the work. They also say that because the car is low mileage (28,000) they think the engine needs to be decoked - apparently with low mileage I should have been regularly 'wellying the car' (their words not mine) to prevent engine coking.
Has anyone else had a similar experience and does anyone understand why whilst under warranty the dealers advised me that the car was fine, and now out of warranty they have found these issues?
