Afternoon all!
Am the new boy here so be gentle with me!.:lol:
Hope you dont mind me putting you in the picture & feel free to oust me to a more suitable forum!
Anyway, we are a small Rural Garage that mainly gets involved with Tractors, Horseboxes, Landrovers ect. Peugeots are new to us!
Lovely little old Lady calls us up, got a 207 that doesnt go. Can we have a look. Drag it in & turn it on. First thing we see is a screen with economy mode active with a number 12 flashing at the left. Turn the key, turns over but will not start. Nothing works, wipers, windows etc.
The story from our little old Lady is a bit sketchy. Some time ago she tried to start at the station but no go. AA went out & got her going. All ok for a while then it started shaking (the car not our Lady). Of she went to here regular garage & the changed the coil pack All good for a bit then shakes again. Back to garage & this time they put a Delphi Peugeot coil pack on. All good for a bit then the day she needs to go to bell ringing practice, no go... She`s a bit miffed & called us. Can we have a go.
Bit out of our normal remit but why not? So Battery on charge for a bit & turned on. Still got economy mode active but now got a number 3 instead of the 12... Still will not start.
Plugged our historic diagnostic kit in & got p0351/2/3&4. Faults on a new coil pack? Went to the engine fuse box & changed Fuse 1, no different.
The big questiuion is, where do we go from here? Be a shame to burn it & have the insurance as its quite a nice little car & her lifeline with the outside world.

I would say the easiest way to deal with this is to have the fault codes read with a dedicated peugeot diagnostic kit..on the forum there is a map of members with said kit who im sure will help for some beer tokens,if you were closer I would help...I will keep an eye on you...good luck

These have an issue where water gets into the fuse box via the wiring. Check for water/corrosion in the wiring and fuse box.
Economy mode will not stop it starting, it will switch off when the engine starts. It is there to protect the battery from going flat.
Also, get in. close the door, switch the ignition on, try to start, switch off but leave key in ignition and open the driver's door.. does it beep to let you know key is in ignition?
Also, try a BSI reset..

PROCEDURE FOR BATTERY DIS-CONNECTION (The 3 Minute Rule)

Whenever a vehicle battery has to be dis-connected, switch off all equipment, interior lights etc, close the doors leaving the drivers window open.

Switch off the ignition and remove the key and any DIAG equipment.

Wait a full 3 minutes before disconnecting the battery.

The BSi must be allowed to go to SLEEP ie into "power save mode". Do not operate any equipment on the vehicle during this time. Remember, even opening the bonnet will wake the BSi on a vehicle fitted with alarm.

If the battery is under the bonnet, open the bonnet first and leave it up. 807 batteries can be dis-connected through the drivers window, remove floor cover first.

ALWAYS disconnect any DIAG equipment and do not operate any plips from other vehicles during the 3 minute waiting period.

PROCEDURE FOR BATTERY RECONNECTION

Unless otherwise instructed by Peugeot or Product Service, you must always carry out the following procedure, often referred to as a "soft re-boot", to minimise the possibility of the BSi corrupting its own software when reconnecting the vehicles battery supply.
Ensure the procedure for battery disconnection has been adhered to and importantly all BSi functions were switched off with the drivers window left down.

1 Close all doors
2 Remove ignition key if left in ignition
3 Reconnect battery. DO NOT open any doors
4 Wait 10 seconds
5 Switch on healights through the drivers window (you will hear a "bong")
6 Switch on ignition then start the vehicle and check system functions


NOTE: Upon reconnection, if any vehicle function controlled by the BSi i.e . interior light is switched on,the internal operation of the BSi has the potential to spike or corrupt its configuration and software program......

Hey Noddy! Will have a look at the map & see if anyone wants some beer tokens.? Marrygold, think its a kfu engine, will check miles tomorrow. Willnz!. Good to hear from someone so far away!. Lot of good ideas there, will try them out & get back to you.....bsi is gonna be tricky coz cant open the damned window!..... got a brick somewhere, maybe that would open it..? This makes gps guided agricultural equipment look medieval!??

The number to the left of the 'economy mode active' box is half of the clock. Specifically, the hour half - the minutes are 'under' the message box.

So, the first time you looked it was reading 12:something, and the second time it was 3:something.

Being a clock, it's entirely unrelated to anything except the time, and not even that if it's wrong :lol:

Not familiar with the 207, but the later peugeots have the light switch integral with the door latch mechanism [look for a button, if there is none visible, assume it is in the door latch mechanism]. With the door open, just use a screwdriver to put the locking latch into the fully closed position, it will think the door is closed.

I too work on horse floats, land rovers and tractors, have 3 old Nuffield tractors of my own to keep me tinkering... :p

Economy mode is irrelevant it does not affect starting

BSI reset does not need to be followed to the letter the important part is the time waiting between doing things
Checking for a beep when ignition off and door open will help i recon the key codes are lost this could give you the codes you mention as the ecu will not let engine run if key is not recognised

Basically no beep no start needs keys recoded to start its a common issue

Found the problem!
The Grey plug to the coil pack is shot... Are these common to other French cars? Any suggestions as to the best place to get a replacement?

Did just that Ian. Cleaned everything up & hey presto! It lives.... clear the codes, quick run round & our little old lady is mobile again.? Back to welding up Landrovers this afternoon. Happy days!. Many thanks all for your advice/suggestions.???
