I had a small crash where the passenger curtain rail and seat airbags blew but had no other damage, fixed the airbags but the computer won't reset and keeps saying the airbags are blown.

Can anyone give me any advice on how to fix it.

Who fixed the airbags as if it was an independent garage they may not have reset using Diagbox, etc?

If an airbag deploys the airbag ecu will have stored crash data which needs to be cleared. Unfortunately this cannot be done with PP2000 or Diagbox. The ecu needs to be sent away to a specialist to have the crash data erased or it would need to be replaced with a 'clean' ecu

is there a reason known why this is so?

I'm guessing this is so that the police can get valuable information about an accident if there were a number of fatalities and the details about the crash were unclear or several different accounts were made. The data could likely help them unravel what exactly happened. If normal diagnostics could erase this data Then someone trying to avoid the repercussions of their actions could erase the data easily. A bit like and aircraft black box
