Hi

My girlfriend has just got a 207 1.4s (75) on an 09 plate and there's a small whine in first and second, however not in the higher gears. It's not a thrust bearing sound, so I'm guessing the first and second gear cogs may be knackered/damaged. The car is only on 46k and has four stamps in the service book so I'm surprised that this is an issue unless the previous driver has caned it in those two gears, or the service haven't been done correctly, if the gearbox oil had to have been changed and hasn't at the right interval.

Has anyone had any similar issues and know of a resolution, ie. something simple like putting thicker gearbox oil in, or to the extent of having to replace the whole gearbox/individual cogs.

Cheers in advance.

It is probably the bearing of one of the internal shafts. Keep an ear open for it getting worse - if not, it may last for years.

Cheers. Just spoke to a peugeot specialist down the road who've said the same and that the MA boxes, which this apparently has are prone to bearing issues.

They've said £500-600 for a rebuild or a box from a breaker which'd cost about £180, plus labour, new diff seals and oil of £200. Although, he reckoned that using a second hand box was asking for trouble with the likelihood of it having the same issues.
