Hi,

My teenage son bought an '06 207 1.4 16v 18 months ago. Had done 48k miles then, 62k now. It had a slight oil weep from the head gasket and he finally got round to having it changed a couple of months ago by a local Pug indy specialist as well as new headbolts, cambelt kit and water pump.

Shortly after this was done, the low oil pressure warning would come on ONLY IF the engine was fully warm AND the revs dropped below 800.

The thermostat and vvt solenoid were also replaced a few weeks later after the car conked out.

Since then, in an attempt to cure the low oil warning, he and I have:

B) Done a full oil and filter change with 5W-30.

C) Replaced the oil pressure sensor with a genuine Peugeot part.

D) Done another full oil change and replaced with 10W-40 (on the advice of the garage).

E) Drained 1litre of oil and added 1litre of Lucas' Pure Synthetic Oil Stabilizer (again, on the advice of the garage).


It doesn't seem to trigger the warning quite as often as before but if the revs drop below 800 when waiting at lights then it does beep sometimes.

Any recommendations for plan F? The last time I did any spannering it was twin SU carbs and throttle cables....If the engine is just 'worn' I was trying to think laterally and come up with a way to ensure the revs can't drop below 900. Is there a way to do that? Something in PP? An adjustment to the accelerator potentiometer?

The last resort would be to disconnect the sensor, that stops the beeping...

My guess would be the oil pump. Higher revs, more pressure.

could try a new genuine oil filter and housing.
also seems the pcv valve/diafram can also cause this, but would mean new cam cover, or cutting out the old one.

Thanks both, much appreciated. We're probably beyond the 'change this and hope it works' point seeing as how we're up to £900 and counting so far.

Any suggestions on the lateral approach? Is the idle adjustable, either mechanically or electronically?

AC is on permanently, will try turning it off to see if the reduced load on the engine makes a difference.

Low oil pressure is never good for a motor. Your comment about disconnecting the sensor is NOT what you should even vaguely consider.. You need to really ascertain what is the actual situation, i.e is it low oil pressure or some sort of electrical glitch giving you the warning. Low oil pressure will nuke the motor. Endof.

If you want to determine exactly what pressures you have under all driving conditions, install a mechanical oil pressure gauge and drive it.

Oil pump would be my first port of call also.
