Hi peeps

I am going to buy a 206 gti that i have seen, however 1 thing is realy putting me off is the temp guage.

I had the car started for atleast 10mins but the needle did not move at all.

Is this a common prob on these cars and what is the fix?

Im realy cautious about this as i am a student and cannot front for big repair bills at the mo.

Am i right for assuming that it is a termostat issue or worse head gasket?

ny advice much appriciated.

thanks

:D

Could have just been the temp guage?

Did you try putting the blowers on warm to see if they made any hot air?

My temp needle used to stick and i'd have to whack the dash to bring it to life haha!

edit: if its an older/high mileage car it might be a lazy thermostat, best way to test is actually take it for a drive instead of just leaving it running

Let it idle and see if the radiator gets hot. If it warms up straight away - thermostat is stuck open (replace it) if it's cool for a bit - then warms suddenly - all is ok. If needle doesn't move - it's either the sensor (cheap replacement) or the gauge (fairly serious as you need to replace it) - still should be les than £50 whatever - and all DIYable.
