Hi all

206 gti 138 bhp, w reg.

When I turn the steering wheel, either pulling away or stationary, I hear a "boing" through the front suspension spring.

Any ideas?

Im guessing its where the spring seats on the strut either at the top or the bottom, but wondered if this is a common, I know what that is sort of problem.

Thanks

Dave

Well the springs are quite old now, check to see if one has broken.
But the spring itself should not be rotating in the seats.

Definitely sounds like your top strut bearing. I had my offside one done on my Y reg last year and now the nearside needs doing. I got away with driving it for 7 months, 5000 miles after it started subtly but eventually there was enough movement caused by the spring recoil to knock the clip off the inner cv joint (there's not a lot of clearance to a nearby shelf if you look), so it wasn't a great idea leaving it. Keep an eye on that inner cv boot clip! My power steering has whined since too, presumably due to the extra strain. I'm having the other one done tomorrow so it doesn't finish off my power steering pump. £80 at the garage I use. They think I'm nuts for continuing to fix her.
