Hi all,

I'm currently in the market to buy a 206 1.4 HDI. My budget means I am looking at cars around 7 years old with about 75000 miles.

Just wondering what common faults I should be looking out for.

Also what is the cambelt interval on these 1.4 diesels?

Any advice greatfully received!

At 75K the cambelt wont be changed. Peugot say that its 120,000 miles for the belt.

Ive just picked up a 53 plate 1.4 Hdi for £3000. It has 55K on the clock.

The reason I bought this was to save money on road tax and insurance as well as fuel, was of the reasons is that the car does 65 Mpg+ on motorway, coming from a petrol it is quite strange going to diesal.

Watch out for the gearbox, I am used to driving newer cars and I find it very loose, the gearbox's use linkages so this is normal for older ones. I am having to replace an Idler pulley on minw as there is a slight metallic noise around the aux belt, this is something to watch for.

Apart from this just make sure you do an id check on the car, check chassis numbers all the normal stuff, I think you should be ok.
