2015 308 diesel. Engine fault. Have the vehicle repaired.

Hi guys.
My 2015 308 1.6 Blue Hdi 120 has been showing this message intermittently and I’m wondering if anyone knows what it could be.
The Smeg will show “Engine Fault : Have the vehicle repaired” and the service light comes on. The engine management light stays off.
Usually I’ll turn the car off for a few minutes and the error message and service light will stay off.
It has done 62000 miles and is serviced regularly.
Any ideas?

The only way to be sure is to get the actual fault code, for which you need an OBD fault code reader or the Peugeot Diagbox.

Hello,

I had this on my 308SW BlueHDi. Turned out the battery was in a very poor state of health. A new battery sorted out all sorts of error messages but in particular the one you mentioned in your post.
Check your battery's health and fit a new one if necessary.

I have a 2016 308 1.6 HDI Blue and have been getting this message intermittently over the past two years but for the last few days it has been coming on more or less every time I drive the car.
The difference between my cars issue and the op's is that the engine cooling fan is running fast and runs for a few seconds after the engine is switched off.
I'll have to get it diagnosed though I hope it's a simple fix as @mr_pepps suggested which gives me hope as I read another post on here about the stop/start function not working correctly due to a poor battery which is another issue my car has.
Update.
So I’ve discovered that this error happens when the air conditioning is switched on. Interestingly, the compressor/radiator fan also runs at full speed even with the engine and external temperature being cold.
Bagenal66 did you get to the bottom of your problem? Mines sounds very similar.

Hi, apologies for the delay in replying.
I got the car diagnosed in the main dealers and they told me it was the fan resistor causing the problem.
Sound like it could be the low speed on the cooling fan has failed.

Switching on the air con should start the fan at low speed.

I had a similar issue with my DS5 when the fan was needed it would trigger an error, stop light and temp gauge would go full scale.

Switch the car off and on and it would all return to normal until the next time the fan was needed
