Ok guys, need to replace the thermostat on my 2008 2.0hdi E7 taxi. Do I have to replace the whole housing or can you just replace the actual thermostat. seems the housing comes in at circa 50 quid but can I somehow open up my old housing and just replace the thermostat??

Bit the bullet and bought housing from Allied, wasn't too bad 66 quid inc vat. Pig of a job though. Skint knuckles again and bleeding arm. Temp gauge now sits between the 80 & 90 marks whereas before it was touching the 1st mark above the 90 and the fans were running all the time. Once again whoever desinged this should be shot. It would be so easy to able to extract the thermostat on it's own from the housing. Cost would prob be about a fiver.

In my experience, the housing that comes together with the thermostat in one pack is genuine and of good quality, so you chose well. Those sold apart have been poor quality. Best of luck.
