106 1.5D (1998) - Alternator Light

I have noticed that the alternator/charging light comes-on in the wet weather.

I have measured the voltage across the battery and am getting 12v +/- 0.5V whether the engine is running (with or without electrical load) or off. I would have expected to have seen 14V if the alternator was charging properly.

So, bearing in mind this seems to occur only in wet weather, is it still likely to be the alternator that is failing. Or could it still be an earth fault?

When it stops raining I will get out there and have a look at the alternator. What is the best way to gain access to it on the 106 (1.5D) as I cannot see it looking down from the top of the engine.

Thanks

Chris
