Hi all

My 407SW have started to hesitate at around 1500-2000 RPM. Also, in low RPM and gear, I often chocke the enginge, as it doesnt increase RPM fast when hitting the pedal.
There was a engine warning lamp, and it states trouble with the EGR valve. The shop wanted to replace it and the DPF, as they think it is clogging. It is some sot close to the turbo, they say that is a sign that the DPF gives resistance. I get no warnings codes regarding anything with DPF though.

I took the car home, cleaned the EGR, but it got even a little bit worse. I noticed that the "thing" that rotates connected to the motor in the black housing was a bit slow/hard to turn. It doesnt rotate smoothly.

But then i removed the power cable from the EGR, and then the car runs smooth again, with no problems on low gear/RPM and no hesitations at all. The car have so far not produced any error code either.

Is it ok to drive with the EGR disconnected like this for the enging?
And, if I change the EGR, is this the most likely solution to the problem, or can it be sensors or other parts that might cause this?
And, do you agree that sot close to the turbo indicates that the DPF should be changed? Even when no warnings from the computer?

I am considering to order a cheap EGR valve from ebay ($50), since i dont know if it will solve the problem. Orelse I would problably order the original valveo EGR at $300 instead.

EGR could well be faulty but if the DPF is clogged then your engine wont run right anyway you need to look at the parameters for the DPF see its regen frequency how much fluid is in the tank etc but if it is clogged it does not need replaced they can be washed out although unless all the other things are working as they should it will just clogg up again quickly.

Do some reading up on how the DPF system works before replacing anything there is more testing needed.

Whats "strange" (to me atleast) is that the car runs smooth again when I disable the EGR by pulling out the power cord to it. It seems the car runs fine without the EGR. As soon as I plug it in again, the hesitation is there right away. My fear is that only replacing it will not work, as it can be other components using it that is failing (my knowledge of fixing cars is limited). There is DPF fluid in the tank, and I think I have noticed it regeneration, as there are some extra white fumes from the exhaust.

I am a little dissapointed at the peugeot service sentre, as it seem they only read the one error code of faulty EGR and no special diagnostics. This is the same i did with my ocdb. But I guess, since they are peugeot specialists, that the sot at the turbo is a tellsign for them of a DPF clogging, they dont need advanced diag. to see it..

Anyways, they wanted $5000 for the service of the car including change of DPF and EGR. Thats the value of the car, so I declined. I did all the service myself, I have changed air filters, diesel filter, oil+filter, break fluid, breaks and disc back, a broken stabilizer rod, and have cleaned the EGR. The work alone on changing the EGR was $350 (+ $700 for the EGR itself), an insane price as it took me less than 15 minutes to get it out. And I can get a brand new valveo EGR for $300. The DPF I understand i need to go under the car, so I want a shop to fix that part for me..

Hi,

I have a similar problem and it's been suggested that my EGR may need cleaning. However, I do not know where to find it in the engine. I think I'll try disconnecting as well, can you help me locate it, please?
