hi there, can anyone advice me on the best way to stop the pulley moving as i try to remove nut on pulley the car is in gear and ive tried a screwdriver thru the other pulleys to try and stop the movement. is it possible the 206 1.4hdi needs the rocker ect removed to stop the movement thanks for your time a novice !! alex

I Have used an impact gun which works out very fast...maybe if you give the
ratchet a quick shock with a hammer may also work..:)
I'd also use a small amount of loctite on the threads of the bolt when refitting the new pully.

This is a really old post but if anyone else is contemplating replacing their crank pulley on the 1.4 HDi engine, then the correct way to stop the engine rotating is to put a 12mm drill bit or bolt through the gearbox/engine plate into a hole in the flywheel.

The old method was to put a spanner/socket on the pulley and jam it against movement, then hit the starter. Not to be recommended by health and safety but they weren't invented when this lesson was learnt.
