I own an 09 plate 308, which has suffered a major engine failure & requires the engine to be replaced.

The car was bought from a dealership at 10 months old. Since buying it I have maintained the car in accordance with the manufacturer's maintenance schedule. The car has only done 49,000 miles.

The car broke down & was recovered to my local garage. To date their investigation has shown that any attempt to refill the coolant results in it draining straight in to the sump. Once the sump was removed the water was pouring in towards the timing chain area.

I just wondered if anyone else has experienced similar issues with their car / heard of someone in the same situation.

Help us out. What is diesel or petrol? Are we supposed to be phsycic (spelling?) as well as being able to tell you whats wrong with it. :confused:

Apologies, I'm new to these forums & wasn't sure what information would be required. The car is a petrol 1.6 vti 308.

Ok. Not a usual problem. Sounds like theres a serious crack somewhere. This is a BMW engine. Wish Peugeot never used it:thumbdown:

I have just had exactly the same problem. It turned out to be a blown core plug in the head. It is still not fixed but according to my mechanic it is a common problem with these engines. If that were the case I would have expected there to have been some sort of recall.

surely a core plug should be fixable

It probably is but the whole of the engine is now filled with 'mayonaise' (emulsified oil) and needs to be stripped and completely cleaned out.
