Exclamation Peugot Partner Gear Loose and won't go into gear

I went down a road that was a dead end, I put the car into gear to turn around and there was a click and all of a sudden the gear went loose and won't go into gear, it's stuck in a gear, won't go into any other gear (incl reverse).

When I say the gear is loose, you can just wriggle it around as if you are making a circle, the gear goes further right, front, left etc than it used to.

Please help.

Many thanks for your reply.

I got RAC out and it's a simple as putting your arm down the back of the hood and connecting two bars onto ball joints and, hey presto, sorted.

no problem, here some pics too

As you can see with first pic, that's where you have to look.

Second picture, there are two links (hard to explain, I'm not a mechanic), these bars will be loose, they pop onto a kinda ball, just need a little pressure and it goes on easy enough.

If that wasn't good enough explanation let me know and I'll try again
