Default Lack of radio reception

Good morning all,

Can you please help me with an annoying problem?

I have an Expert H1/L1 2.0l diesel 2010, from new with only 16,000 miles on the clock.

The problem I have started when I snapped the roof mounted aerial (putting a ladder on the roof-rack). The radio reception was fine locally, with just half the aerial, but was getting progressively worse over time.

I purchased a genuine Peugeot aerial four months ago and screwed it in. Yet again reception was acceptable, just, although some local areas were worse with the new aerial compared to just having the broken half of the original, but a major problem has arisen in that I have no radio reception at all travelling 10 miles (approx) out of my location of Aberystwyth in west Wales.

As an example travelling to Wiltshire to see my son I lose the signal 8 miles up the road and never regain it. The radio will hiss at me but nothing else.

I will say that in the times of lack of signal the RDS symbol flashes as if it's trying to re-tune and I have even tried manual tuning but its just as if all radio station have gone 'off the air'.

The only thing I can think of is that I have done more damage than I thought when I broke the original aerial. Is there something in the base that could be damaged also? or maybe something behind the shelf above my head.

Your thoughts, information and help would be most appreciated.

This is a common issue what has happened is either you have split the base internally and the centre pin no longer contacts the mast or water has got in and run down the coax leading to the radio this rots out the copper and the signal fades

Try a new base but if that does not help you will need to replace the coax not a pleasant job.
assume nothing check everything twice !!
