Default Gear linkage

I have a 51 plate Peugeot partner. I'm having issues with it going into 1st and 2nd gear. I've heard that the gear linkage is a common problem. Does anyone know if the gear linkage is adjustable ?

If its rod type selector there are various points that wear and need greasing not much adjustment though just a case of replacing worn parts.

If its cable type then there is not really any adjustment.

by looking

Its most likely the rod type though at that age and the main wear points are the ball and the rods themselves

I take it I'm going to have to go under the van for that? Is it a straight forward job?
