Default Buying a MY14 Car? CHRIS KNOTT GAP Cover...

If you're buying a new car in the next few months the dealer will probably try and sell you GAP Insurance. This is a good protection that means you can afford a new one if the car is written-off during the first few years of ownership. The problem is that dealers often charge inflated prices for the cover.

Chris Knott GAP Cover on a car purchased for 15,000 is just 82.34 and on a vehicle purchased for 50,000 only 151.08 and that gives you 3 years' protection.

Before you agree to the dealer's GAP Insurance, make sure you get a comparative quote for Chris Knott's GAP Cover.

Ask us for a stand alone quote or combine the cover with your car insurance - simply call 0800 917 2274 or 01424 200477 and follow the 'car insurance' options to find out just how affordable Chris Knott GAP Cover could be for you.

Be aware of the difference between gap and return to invoice. I just bought a car and it was Rti they were selling. This one seems to be the best of both worlds and cheaper too.

One pays the difference between the original price of the car and what the insurance company pays out which is called Rti

One pays out the difference between the insurance payout and the finance remaining which is gap insurance.

Rti is expensive at about 300 from dealers for three years cover so this one does seem to be good value. I have once claimed on it and got payed out a total of 23000 on a 3 1/2 year old Subaru impreza STi (in the case of a new car I selected the Rti to start in the second year of ownership as my insurance would have covered the full price of the car in the first year).

While they seem to be an add on, I can vouch that when you need it, it's worth it.

One thing, read the claims procedure as soon as you get it as mine needed a copy of the original invoice (not the order form) which the dealer never gave me. Fortunately, the dealership found it in their records.

Yes, this cover pays whichever is the greatest - the invoice or the remaining finance - to enable you to start again with a new car.
