Default Pop up issues

My access to this forum using my gmail account/ chrome browser, is being blocked by a scam pop up telling me I've won an iPhone 7 if I test the iPhone 8

Help!

There's ways around this but they all depend on what machine you are using.
Basically though I would do two things:-
1. Clear the Cache and Cookies for the Browser you are using.
2. Install a Pop Up Blocker (also called a Content Blocker).

Clearing the Cache and Cookies will also delete any saved passwords you have for web sites.
i.e. When coming back here for the first time after clearing you will be asked for your username and password. Once inserted it then saves your data for any subsequent returns (you won't be required to reinsert your log in details every time).

Pop Up Blockers/Content Blockers get rid of advertisements but also any window that opens up in front of the web site you are on.
i.e. With no Blocker a devious window could pop up offering you the option to purchase something. However, with a blocker installed it will stop these windows.

Thanks Mike
I use my iPad most times and am now free of this at the moment.
It didn't pop up on another website forum so I take it it was targeting this forum as Safari wouldn't work either without the same occurring.
I've always had trouble updating my password on this forum in the past for some reason also.

No problem Dave.
Targeted sites can be common, especially if the person doing it has many hit returns in his search of certain sites using key words. In this instance the key word he may have been using was 'iPhone'. Knowing people coming to that particular site means he will then generate said pop up windows asking you to purchase an iPhone. This could be both mischievous (as in it links you to another web site that could try and obtain further details from you..... or it could be a bog standard attempt to make you purchase the phone from the site they send you to.
Either way no one should EVER, ever click on these pop up windows.

I suppose I'd better get back on topic.

Yeah Mike,
But I think it's important for everyone to know that the pop up freezes the screen and either way denies you access......including Administrators of this forum.
The iPad is the only Apple devise I use and have not searched for any Apple device to purchase.
Odd.
The end.

Default Not Quite The End

Thanks Mike, I've got loads of protection on my PC but I think it's also happened on my iPad. Adverts are in French and as Dave says it’s when I’m browsing the forum.

Just checked my pop-up blocker settings and Peugeot Forums have been checked as an exception! I've changed this.

My cookies are playing up anyway because every time I log on to the forum threads I’ve visited recently and haven’t been updated by anyone are displayed in bold. I’ll see if a restart solves this.

The End

Default Still happening

I think it's the forum because I've reinstalled Chrome to no effect on my other non roaming iPad and it has returned but only this forum.

Using Chrome and Ad-block plus here with no adverts or popups.

Admin now needs to look into this as without pop-up control it could happen to anyone.
The site is using VBSecurity 2.2.2 pro ~ That's dated 30 May 2016
Latest version is 3.3.0 dated 14 Feb 2017
Latest version ~ Adds 2 factor authentication, IP address checks, patches security flaws and more!
