Default Over zealous moderator

Hi,

There is a moderator in the 3008 forum called Beau who I believe is being a little over zealous and precious with his status as moderator. I have been suspended for 3 days for apparently berating other users which I have not been doing.

Beau has not offered any further explanation or provided me any examples of what he understands to be unacceptable.

Beau appears to be somebody who is unable to appreciate friendly, playful banter, is very highly strung (his posts about throwing himself in front of a vehicle because his car delivery has been delayed is evidence of this, which as an aside some may find insensitive) and has already been accused by others in the forum of over policing.

Could you please look into this or let me know who I need to contact about this?

My user name is spjgriw

Many thanks.

Richard

The problem with playful banter in a forum which is a purely written exchange is there is no vocal intonation, facial expression or body language to differentiate between humerous assides and what could be percieved as aggressive or otherwise unfriendly comments. I have made plenty of posts which to my mind were very humerous only to receive a tirade of angry responses from people who didn't see the humour I thought was very evident.

Beau felt that his action was justified and I'll leave it up to him to respond. If you wish to take it further then you need to contact an administrator and ask them to look into it. Creating a new account to circumvent a suspension is likely to be frowned upon though. It would have been better to wait out the time then register your concerns when you got access back.

Thanks for your reply. I will contact an Administrator about this. I created this ID purely to be able to complain about what I view as a gross misuse of power and a totally unjustified suspension. I feel very strongly about this and I don't think it's fair that a moderator plays God without first of all laying out a very clear case for a suspension and then allowing a response. As already commented this person has already shown signs of over policing which others have commented on.

I would agree with storeman in that the written word can often be taken the wrong way when there is no body language to go with it. I don't know what you wrote, but clearly it could be taken two ways.
Being a moderator on another forum, I see this quite often. I tend to let things go unless I get a complaint, but that's on a very small forum compared to this one.

Nothing of any note was written! Unfortunately I do get the impression that the moderator is very sensitive to anything he doesn't agree with, including a sense of humour that may not be in tune with his.

Are you implying beau is lying and hasnt informed admin on your behalf ??
You have however highlighted an issue that if a member gets a ban, either temporary or permanent we need to ban the isp as well.

No. You are wrongfully concluding that. I am stating that, given the source of this issue is one person's mistaken impression of another based on a few textual exchanges, I should ensure the message is also forwarded with my accompanying commentary in order to ensure minimal bias.

As an aside, your message is a classic example of people misinterpreting the communications of others
