you could try bleeding the system.

Engine running move to full lock one way and hold for a couple of seconds then full opposite lock and hold. Do this a few times then see how it goes.

Please take time to read the FAQ. You've posted in the wrong section, and don't even mention what car this is. Heavy power steering has been covered before if you do a search.

Well i didn't realise there was a certain "section" to be posted in & i didn't have time to look plus i thought i could ask a general question without the backlash of a very abrupt message.

Gibbo is only doing his job as a forum moderator.

Asking questions in the correct forum can help others looking through the forum specifically for their car or issue. If a question is in the wrong forum (In this case the forum is for things related to the way the forum works or is laid out) means the resolution may not be found by people looking for an answer to the same problem.

Also try to remember that the written word can sometimes come across as abrupt when the same thing when heard can come across differently due to vocal inflection.

We would certainly need to know what car and year to help you futher as there are several PAS systems fitted all with their own problems. Have you checked the PAS fluid level if it is hydraulic?
