Default 307 hdi Strange problem when cold

I can't find exactly a relevant post.
When the engine is cold, starts ok, but after a few seconds the power drops to around 100 revs and smokes heavily (grey with black soot on the ground).

Leaving it running and pushing the revs occasionally it creeps to around 2k revs still smoking. When the engine hits around 70 degrees it suddenly kicks into life then works fine with no more problems.
The car is in Spain and my spanish is not good enough to explain to the mechanic. So narrowing down the problem will help me.

sounds like it could be the egr valve, try pulling the vaccum pipe off the egr and put something in the rubber pipe to block it eg a golf tee.

what engine details would be nice too have a good read of this https://www.peugeotforums.com/forums/...members-83170/

Default Thank you

It's a 2.0 hdi, 2001 model. Will try that when I get back.

90 or 110 facelift or prefacelift

egr is back left corner when facing engine
