Unhappy 307 auto won't turn over on start

I have tried to start my 307 automatic today and found that when turning the key and all the display illuminates the emission control system warning light stays on , and when you try to start the engine nothing happens. the lights in vehicle and the electric mirrors all work , so I assume that it is not a battery problem. can anybody shed some light on this matter ,

Highly likely to be the starter. Possibly loose connection, faulty solenoid or worn/sticking brushes.

First thing I would do is check all wiring to the starter is clean and tight. One large wire to power the starter and one thinner one to energise the solenoid. If the wiring is OK then try tapping the starter body which can release sticking brushes.

If it had been a manual I'd suggest bump starting it down a slope but you don't have that luxury.

Personally I'd try to get it running then fit a new starter. Most recommend getting the uprated 1.7Kw starter.
