Question 207 transfer box

Hi all,
My 2006 model 207 1.4 Petrol model has decided to die - it's gearbox failed on the motorway last week - Cant get the reliability these days it's only done 308,472 miles - same with the clutch it's release bearing failed at 176,000. (Truth told it's a bit like Triggers Broom for those of you who know Only Fool and Horses)
anyway I refuse to let it die after such trusty service so I am looking at getting an exchange gearbox but - and that's why I am on here - when searching for a replacement I get the option of Gearbox and Transfer box - I am not sure about the transfer box bit - can anyone enlighten me on what it is and do I need it
All answers much appreciated.
Cheers PJ

As far as I'm aware, a transfer box is used on four wheel drive versions to transfer drive to both front & rear axles.

I agree with Storeman on vehicles primarily designed for front wheel drive transfer boxes are added to provide a drive to the rear axle for four wheel drive vehicles.

Default 207 transfer box

Thanks Storeman and Renegade for your fast responses - I wasnt going mad then, that's what I thought but I didnt know there were any 4 wheel drive versions of the 207 and still dont. But when I looked for a replacement box there was the option for Gearbox AND transfer box. Guess they have it wrong or is there really a 4 wheel model.
Cheers PJ

Can't say I've heard of a 4WD 207 but the same gearbox could have been used in another make / model that did have 4WD
