If i was 18 and had 1000 i could not afford to insure ANYTHING

Having said that i am biased but a 1.5 dci diesel clio wins hands down they are 30 or 20 to tax cheap for insurance reasonably reliable and better than most other options

Fuel and running costs are the biggest thing to consider when running a car nowadays

I have 4 loaned out/used by various people and hardly see any of them !!

When I was checking insurance costs when deciding which car to buy, my 2004 307 S 2.0 HDI 90 came in at just over 900 with 1 year no claims and I'm 56

If i was 18 though with 1 years ncb i would go for anything with a smaller engine 1.1 or 1.2. That was my only option til i hit 25

I paid 190 insurance for my 2001 206 GTi. I have 13 yrs NCB

For 1000 and 1yrs ncb. Does the 1000 have to include the cost of the insurance+vehicle? Buy a Ford Ka. Ins group 2. Plenty around, easy to work on, cheap parts, good on fuel. Buy a late model. Only downsides are image its a girly car, and avoid cars with rust around petrol flap (Known rust spot).

I'd 2nd the Ka going by what I've been told. I know of a few blokes who have got their kid's (mainly daughters) one due to cheap insurance and running/repair costs.

Me Id look at what cars fall into what insurance groups here

Car Insurance Groups | UK Car Insurance Advice | Advice on Motor Car Insurance | Parkers

As some cars fall into lower groups than other eg 1.4 lower group than 1.2 engine then I would trawl the autotrader website finding out the best car I can get for the cash and use the reg on the picture to get an accurate insurance quote from confuddled.com or compare the meekat

Edit : all the while hoping I could get a Baugtti Veyron or Porsche 911 carerra GT in budget

I'd buy 1000 on black at your local roulette table!
