Default Trailer laws

Anybody know the current law regarding towing trailers. I have a basic 2 wheel trailer 6x4 that I am going to repaint and reboard.

A friend was telling me the laws are changing and only factory built trailers with serial numbers and chassis plates will be permitted on the roads.

I dont want to put the money into this little project if that is the case..

The police do not even understand the rules regarding trailers the more you look the more confusing it becomes

I think the eu are pushing this as in europe trailers and caravans are taxed seperately

I was always unsure of the law even before this new one regarding chassis plates. I passed my license after 98 but I still think I am entitled to tow a small trailer weighing up to 750kg.

Think it should cost me 100 to put trailer back on the road and for all the times i will use it I can't see myself running into any bother.

I do not live in the UK, so I have not heard of this before.
Looking around on line I cannot find anything either.
Maybe have a shifty through the National Association for towers!
NTTA Guide to Safe & Legal Towing
It seems there has been a few changes to the law/regulations regarding the size of trailers which one is permitted to tow and new registrations.
