I did this with a Triumph Acclaim about 22 years ago....., although I was sat on a tool box because I had taken the seats out - it was bloody quick..!!

I did get a telling off by the local constabulary - but it was different back then...

I don't see what the issue is really, as long as he had his brakes and indicators then the only person at risk was the driver
I think a harsh word from the officers would have been good enough and don't see that there was any reason to prosecute.

He'd removed ALL the lights !!!!!!!!!!! Really don't see the bad in it?

Driving without doors is illegal. Hence we never get vans with sliding doors these days :-(
Driving without seat belts???
Driving without a bonnet is illegal as it the engine can cause a lot more damage to peds when you hit them.
In general the whole structural integrity of the car is not secure if things like panels and doors are not in situ.

Driving a car without a door is not illegal some cars do not have doors !!
Construction and use rules are complex and I doubt they say anywhere thow shalt have doors
