Default Movie - Dredd

Stars Karl Urban - not some muscle bound mega movie star - which is a refreshing change. Not that you could tell it was him under the Dredd helmet.

Few special effects, for example Dredd's motorcycle is clearly that - a motorcycle underneath some futuristic looking cover.

Due to lack of CGI - and reliance upon 'real' streets in a 'real' American metropolis, the movie has a realism rarely seen in movies nowadays. The plot revolves around the fight against a new designer drug - which again is entirely credible. For these reasons, the movie gets a few more points.

Primarily based in one building - which is really its weak point and perhaps a little too gory in places.

I liked this movie - not reliant upon flashy CGI - the locations are real and this adds to the movie.

This gets a 7/10.

A good review and a fair judgement of the film. At lot better then the abomination that came before it and felt more accurate to the comic books. I'd love to see a sequel perhaps involving more of the huge "mega city". Sadly I doubt it will happen, but one can hope.

As a old 2000 AD fan, I thought it was pretty good.

The Stallone abortion was a complete joke.

I was saying to the Mrs. that I was not expecting it to be as good as it was, and that it is a shame it is not 3D.

Then watching the extras, I find they really went to town on the 3D effects, so far as to develop a new camera for specific shots.

Lo-and-behold, a few days later I stumble across the 3D version. Nearly bought it, but didn't have any cash on me.

Allegedly, there was a prior attempt to make a Dredd movie, but it was so awful that John Wagner refused to license the rights to the studios. The script was rewritten, and it was released as Robocop.
