Hi everyone. I need some help please! Have just bought a 2000 Peugeot 306 1.9d. The CD player which I believe is the original plays cd's perfectly when engine is off. As soon as engine is started it stops playing and seems to freeze.
There is power to the unit as radio will play whether engine is on or not??
Was thinking of buying another one although would rather keep the one I've got and was thinking if it's a power thing will probably do the same with a new one?
Not sure this is a common problem as I'm new to the forum and also my first Peugeot. Any advice or ideas would be gratefully received. thanks

Iso power plug

Hi mate, what you're describing could be the IGNITION & PERMANENT
the POWER PLUG wires may have been cut previously to fit a different stereo, then on selling car put original back in.

To describe in brief the purpose of the POWER WIRES, which could be different colours to normal convention:
IGNITION + = Radio/Settings MEMORY
PERMANENT + = Supply +
NEGATIVE - = Supply -

Possibly these connected with bullet connector where IGNITION & PERMANENT can be swapped easily, or perhaps somebody has cut & used block connectors to wire in a different CD PLAYER.

Also the car stereo loom plugs, there will be other wires many with unknown purpose, possibly seperate plugs, such as Steering Stalk controls, elec aerial remote wire if elec seperate.

Unless you have an Elec Multi Meter & basic understanding of electrics I'd leave to somebody else who is a friend who knows of such things, like a mate who is an electrician or a mechanic.

But normally first of all, to pull out the exisiting stereo you will need RELEASE KEYS, Halfords sell many types, so do EBAY & AMAZON, these should be inexpensive less then £10. A MultiMeter for testing elec circuits is about £10 from Maplin.

Stephan, thanks for this. Not great with electrical stuff but will get the stereo out and have a look for anything that doesn't look like it should. I think I may well leave this to someone who knows their stuff. Would what your describing about the wires though just affect the cd part of my stereo? The radio works all the time and isn't affected when engine starts? There is power to it even when ignition isn't turned on.
Sorry if that's a stupid question!
